| The subject of insects and spiders pops up periodically in my class. I've told this story for a few years now. This is a Huntsman Wood Spider that wandered into my laundry room in 2006. The sheer size made my heart stop. I took this from a some distance. You can see the flash reflected off its eye. Yes, those numbers are correct. This spider was over a foot long. I have had many of these species in my home, but never had I seen one this size. What happened to it? Well... I slammed my dryer door shut and it dropped a good three feet to a laundry shelf. It scampered away behind a water heater and was never heard from or seen again. I periodically have dreams of finding it sitting on my toothbrush in the morning,.. |
